Everything is from the void and returns to the void. In this awesome novel, Sri M, in his usual captivating way of storytelling, takes us into a village where an eccentric mystic (people called him Shunya saami) appears from nowhere, plays around, and again vanishes to nowhere. It is apparent that many of the thread of his storytelling comes from direct experience.
I have gone through the novel multiple times, and every time I discovered something new that I missed out previously. Realised beings need not always come in garments. They can be naked, raw, unconventional and deemed as madmen by normal people. They work in ways that are mostly incomprehensible, and above all, is only there for human wellbeing. The compassion, the sense of protection that these beings shower is just inexplicable with words. Nothing can keep them attached yet they are deeply involved wherever they are.Â
This novel would be a new experience. An underrated masterpiece, in my opinion.
